Detail Wood Etching |
In my most recent project, I created three
non-representational sculptures using wood, wire, glue, paper, tape, and hot
glue for the materials. Each piece communicates a different principle of design
(repetition, focal point, and negative space). This body of work reflects my
ongoing interest in how structure can evoke meaning without relying on
recognizable representations.
These sculptures invite viewers to engage with pure form and spatial relationships. The piece, based on repetition, employs a rhythmic arrangement of wooden elements to establish visual cadence and movement. The focal point sculpture draws attention to a singular dominant form, guiding the viewer’s gaze through line and directional flow. The negative space sculpture uses the absence of material to become the central subject, challenging viewers to look through the wire shape.
Wood was chosen for its hard and reliable form. Each sculpture was constructed through the process of putting random objects together in hopes of achieving a non-representational sculpture.
This project deepened my understanding of abstract and formal design. I was able to explore how viewers perceive and interpret space without representational cues. My intent is not to tell a story, but to provoke curiosity and encourage viewers to consider how repetition, emphasis, and voids shape their experience of form.
